Most of Nixa has gone up in the last twenty years, on ground that was pasture before that. The usual sequence on a new lot: topsoil comes off, the lot gets shaped to drain, sod goes back down over whatever is left.

So the first question on a Nixa yard is what is under the grass. Thin topsoil sitting on clay subsoil will not hold a patio by itself. The base has to be crushed stone, compacted in lifts, or the surface moves the first wet winter and the joints open up.

If the back door steps out onto a slope, or the yard drops off faster than you can use it, a wall is what makes the flat part. Patios, walls, steps, lighting, fireplaces and kitchens.
